Cage Suburbia, the project of Haunter Records co-founder Daniele Guerrini and Matthias Girardi, knows how to display its influences—and to hide them in the next instant again. Already with the first two tape releases they played with themes of information, warfare and provocation. On their third and final Argument—finally available on vinyl—they deliver some more ammunition for that battlefield.
Talking of information the industrial way by sampling Genesis P. Orridge for Argument #3’s opening track “Copkiller” may seem an obvious choice to add some message to those four distorted techno-bangers. But already with the first snares of “Copkiller” hitting, way more references open up and get connected, while only the distorted kicks remain on the obvious paths. Everything else spreads out and gets back contaminated through dub techniques. This infection continues with the super-jacked tom-workout of “The Vault”, to the bell-toned gabber-breaks of “201334,56MI” and reaches its peak in the jungle-electro-thing that is “Black Ops”. Changes in BPM between the single tracks matter here as much as life matters in warfare.
Yes, Genesis is right in the sampled speech: Information is like a bank. And Cage Suburbia shows with their use of “intelligence research for the funnier side of destruction”, why we should follow their (and the Gen’s) invitation to kill the guards: The system of free access represented with their noise-sounds shows what’s possible without them.
Argument #3 gets released through Haunter Records. Cage Suburbia was kind enough to send us an exclusive mix providing some more context for said release.
