Premiere: Noémi Büchi’s “Elemental Fear”

Noémi Büchi released her debut album Matter with Zurich-based label -OUS last November. We are delighted to present the video for the LP’s opener “Elemental Fear”, which was made by filmmaker Bennie Hess, as an exclusive premiere.

Zurich-based composer and sound artist Noémi Büchi has gained international attention with two EPs in recent years: Matière (Light of Other Days, 2020) and Prismic Passages (Visible Dinner For Invisible People, 2021). At the end of last year, the LP Matter followed suit through Zurich-based label -OUS. Büchi’s debut full length is set out to capture the tension between growth and decay, consonance and dissonace, mirroring Büchi’s own catharsis through music.

We are delighted to present the video for “Elemental Fear”, which is the opening track of the LP, as an exclusive premiere today.

The music video is directed by Bennie Hess and emerges as a fitting representation of Büchi’s music. A nonlinear and often cyclic sequence of shots combined with a strong stylistic overlap between the visual material and the music leads us into an almost intuitive understanding of fear and anxiety. Büchi is present in the video, expressing herself through movement. She is seen fighting and standing her ground with full authority. At the same time, she is trapped and caught. The fragility of self is beautifully portrayed as we observe the character struggle on screen.
